Yawn-inducing despite excellent performances from Helen Mirren, Robert Redford and Willem Dafoe. |
Producer Pieter Jan Brugge stays behind the camera, but puts on a director's hat, while writer Justin Haythe also makes his feature debut. Independent film supporter Robert Redford also brings his immense talent to this production.
Wayne Hayes (Redford), wealthy executive, and his wife, Eileen (Helen Mirren) are living the American Dream. They are extremely well off, have a thriving business, and have raised two successful children. The dream changes when a disgruntled employee (Willem Dafoe), kidnaps Wayne and hold him for ransom in the mountains.
Eileen works desperately with the FBI to secure Wayne's release. This ordeal also gives them a new outlook on life and their marriage. Eileen is determined to get Wayne back since she has gained a deeper sense of commitment to their relationship.
This film had its world premiere at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival in January. I think Fox Searchlight was impressed when they saw Redford's name attached to the film and decided to distribute it. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
