Some gripping sequences hide many of the weaknesses, but make no mistake on the point. It's plot-thin. |
A remake of the 1979 cult horror film that starred Carol Kane, this 21st century update will feature Camilla Belle (The Ballad of Jack and Rose) as the terrorized babysitter.
The story centers on a high school student named Jill Johnson, who agrees to baby-sit for a neighborhood doctor while he and his wife are out on the town. Like the good babysitter she is, she makes sure that they are all tucked safely into bed for a good night's sleep in their upstairs bedroom, then settles in for a night of study and catching up on homework.
Suddenly, Jill begins to get phone calls from a stranger. When she answers the phone the first few times, the person on the other end of the line says nothing, Jill thinks it's just one of her friends calling her and playing a joke. As the calls continue, though, she starts to become a little freaked out and calls the police. The calls keep coming, and finally rather than remaining silent, a creepy voice asks her, "Have you checked the children lately?"
As the situation becomes ever more terrifying, Jill believes that this strange entity from the telephone must be able to see her movements in the house. She turns off the lights and closes the curtains, and yet the caller still asks "Why haven't you checked the children?" Will the police be able to trace the caller and come to Jill's aid? (Kim Hollis/BOP)
